GuangdongMuseum of Art Acquires Tang Qishan's Work

Sincethe 20th century, artistic forms have evolved from the figurative to theabstract, with Impressionism, Abstract Art, and subsequent modern art movements playing pivotal   roles. Impressionist painter Claude Monet, through his captureof transient light and color, pioneered an approach transitioning from literallandscapes toward subjective imagery, profoundly influencing later abstractartists. Contemporary Chinese artist Tang Qishan responds to this visual tradition uniquely by combining Eastern and Western cultures:   through extensivetravels and study, he has deeply engaged with the expressive forms of Westernmodern art, transforming natural light and shadow into a personal visual language through keen color refinement and vivid brushwork. Simultaneously, grounded in his training in Chinese calligraphy since childhood, the formalconstructions in his work embody the essence of Eastern philosophical culturewhile exhibiting the visual tension of modern abstract art.

InTang Qishan's creative practice, nature and symbols are interwoven and coexist symbiotically. Nature, as humanity's primordial sanctuary, bears the projectionof countle ss cultural and philosophical contemplations. Symbols witness the development of   civilization, becoming bridges connecting time and space. This exhibition, "Blending   Nature and Symbols: Tang Qishan Contemporary ArtExhibition," unfolds precisely upon this aesthetic reflection, presenting how the artist finds resonance between nature and   symbols through its threechapters: "Whispers of the Forest," "Impressions of the Lotus Pond," and "Awakening of Codes."

The"Whispers of the Forest" chapter employs concise yet powerful linesto construct a visual language, creating a modern, natural discourse. As PietMondrian stated, "The purpose of art is to create harmony." TangQishan's works reveal the beauty of natural order through rationallyconstructed forest imagery. The disrupted lines within the works explorehumanity's renewed understanding of nature through the dialectical relationshipbetween order and chaos. The "Impressions of the Lotus Pond" chapterrecreates the beauty of Eastern poetry with fresh tones and a hazy artisticconception. The lotus pond is not merely a representation of a naturallandscape but becomes a symbol for contemplating the relationship betweenhumanity and nature. The "Awakening of Codes" chapter turns its gazetowards ancient writing systems, using oracle bone script and pictographicsymbols as media to explore the contemporary significance of symbols throughdeconstruction and reconstruction. The artist endows traditional characterswith new visual vitality by stylizing ancient oracle bone script.

In recent years, Chinese abstract art has gradually secured a place within theglobal art   context. From early experimental explorations to today's diverse developments, artists continuously seek new possibilities at the intersection of traditionand contemporaneity, East and West. Tang Qishan's work unfolds preciselyagainst this backdrop. He focuses not only on the expression of visual aesthetics but also responds to philosophical   questions in contemporary society through his artistic practice. This exhibition not only   provides a systematic overview of Tang Qishan's artistic creation but also aims to offer   new pathways for thought regarding the development of domestic abstract art.
